Ocean Liner Crystal and Glass

Crystal and glass used on board ocean liners, cruise ships, merchant vessels, and others comprise an underappreciated facet for collecting. It certainly offers a challenge in finding good quality specimens and complete sets because crystal and glass artifacts are among the most delicate items carried on board ship. But they can also be among the most beautiful ship board objects and well worth pursuing. Below are samples from our inventory. We have many more available and would like to hear what your interests are in collecting these types of objects.

Queen of the Waves

These cut crystal glasses were used on board the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. but they were also used on some other Cunard ships. Without a reliable provenance, it is impossible to know which ship any particular glass actually came from. They are sturdy as crystal glasses go, yet they are also delicate enough that you know they are high quality. They have a high lead content, so they are quite brilliant.

The old fashioned glass (lower right) is 3 1/4 inches tall, 2 1/8 inches at its base, and has a diameter at the mouth of 3 inches. The aperitif (lower left) is 4 1/4 inches high, two inches at the base, and has a diameter of 2 inches. The short tulip glass (upper right) is 3 1/4 inches high, 2 inches at the base, and has a diameter of 2 3/4 inches. The tall tulip glass (upper left) is 4 1/4 inches tall, 2 inches at the base, and has a diameter of 2 3/4 inches. The tulip glasses we have available are etched “RMS Britannic.”

All are in excellent condition.

Each glass $225.00.

Italian Line Aperitifs

We have several of each of these two aperitif styles available. They are embossed with the Italia and crown emblem of the Italian Line and the sides are ribbed. The taller glasses measure 2 1/2 inches high, 1 3/4 inches in diameter at the mouth, and 1 1/2 inches in diameter at the base.

The petite glasses are 2 inches tall, 1 3/8 inches in diameter at the mouth, and 1 7/16 inches at the base.

All are in excellent condition.

Standard aperitif glasses $85.00 each.

Petite aperitif glasses $65.00 each.

Home Lines Glass

If you knew Home Lines, you probably knew it as a gracious but fun-loving cruise line that was among the best serving Bermuda and the Caribbean. It’s possible that you knew the line as one of the passenger lines that specialized in immigrant travel. Either way, its crown logo would be familiar to you--more familiar than you might realize. The Home Lines crown was a variation on the three crowns of the Swedish America Line, whence Home Lines sprang. In fact, the "Home" in Home Lines is a variation on the "-holm" common among Swedish America Line ships, such as the Stockholm. You might also recognize the crown logo if you sailed on Oceanic after Premiere acquired it, since that company apparently got many of the ship’s stores, along with the ship.

This glass is in very good condition. It measures 4 1/2 inches high and is 2 1/2 inches in diameter. $39.00.

French Line Aperitifs

These aperitif glasses are from the French Line, as shown by the CGT logo etched into them. They are 3 3/8 inches high, 2 1/4 inches at the base, and the mouth is 2 inches in diameter. They are in excellent condition. WAS $225.00 each. PRICE REDUCED! NOW $125.00 each
